Produce Spotlight: Garlic
Maybe you know someone who has donated blood. You probably know someone who does and don’t even know it. These quiet heroes tend not to brag and don’t make the headline news but are the behind the scenes lifesavers in part responsible for the leukemia patient that walked out of the hospital cancer free today, the car crash victim that was able to go home to their family & the prematurely born baby with the birth defect that lived. If you need a reason, here are a few:
- It’s in you to give!
Canadian Blood Services slogan spells it out- we are all full of blood and a healthy body regenerates very quickly. No matter how many movies you’ve watched, blood cannot be synthetically manufactured. It needs to come from you. - It could be you in need- or someone you know.
A car crash could strike at any moment, a heart condition gone undetected or a baby born in need. If it was a close friend or family member suddenly requiring blood would you roll up your sleeves? - It’s like a mini-detox for your body
Prompting your body to kick it up a notch and pump out some new blood cells is extremely healthy for YOU! Tack on the added bonus of someone else yielding the benefits of your detoxification and you’re probably feeling pretty darn good about yourself! - There’s a need.
O-negative blood is in low supply right now as it is the universal donor- anybody can receive O-negative. While O is the most common blood type in Canada, only 7% of Canadians have O-negative blood. Find out what your blood type is at the clinic (2277 Westwood Drive) or here. - It’s a quick way to volunteer.
Feel as though you’re giving back to the community without taking up ton of precious hours in your day. One hour every 8 weeks to donate whole blood isn’t too much to ask is it? - Free disease test while you’re at it!
They screen your blood for all kinds of disease and are required by law to tell you if they find anything. Rest assured you aren’t unknowingly suffering from Hepatitis, West Nile or Syphilis after you’ve donated. - You’re a super-hero, a livesaver!
How many people do you know who have pulled someone from a car wreckage, a burning building, out from nearly being hit by a passing bus? Here’s your opportunity to save somebody’s life. You’ll never know them, it’s a limelight free service you’re doing. It could be Madison.
