Perhaps you’ve heard of homeopathy? Or perhaps not! Either way, there is no shortage of misinformation on this ‘alternative’ system of medicine. Anything that’s been around for hundreds of years is bound to be shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding…
Homeopathy was developed in 1796 by a German physician Samuel Hahnemann using the principle that ‘Like Cures Like’. Mind racing like you’ve just had a cup of coffee (though you haven’t!) and can’t fall asleep at night? Coffea Cruda is a tincture made from coffee bean, and diluted down to a minute concentration. It will calm your mind, the opposite of what the original ingredient would do. ‘Like Cures Like’ is the notion that a dis-ease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms in healthy people.
Homeopathic remedies are derived from plants, minerals, or animals; things from nature. Homeopathic preparations are most often available as sugar pellets to dissolve sublingually (under the tongue), though they can also be available as ointments, gels, drops, creams, and tablets. Our local health food store carries a wide variety should you be comfortable with treating yourself. Choosing the correct remedy is the trickiest part about this medical modality. Select the right one and you’ll be on the mend, pick the wrong treatment and you’ll yield no results at all.
Before we had pharmaceuticals and “western medicine”, we healed ourselves from what nature provided us with. These remedies are still effective.
Healing through homeopathy uses an individualized approach, treating the patient and not just the condition. Illness ranging from a cold or flu through asthma, allergies & food intolerances, migraines, PCOS, infertility, depression, insomnia, anxiety, gallstones, pneumonia, ADD/ADHD, sciatica, back, shoulder & joint pain and even during the birthing process can be eased with homeopathy.
We are fortunate to have a homeopath right here in Prince George who is able to assist with acute treatments. Contact Carla through her website for questions or to book an appointment.
