There are endless studies telling us (pleading even) that a big part of our overall health means including some sort of physical activity within our day. It doesn’t have to be a 4 hour treadmill marathon every night though- getting your heart rate up for just 30 minutes a day is beneficial.
For you this could be a walk after dinner (helps with digestion too!), a swim or a short jog followed by some stretching before you get ready to start your day. Even raking the leaves can burn 290 calories an hour (and if you don’t have trees in your yard, you can come over to my house, there’s plenty to go ‘round!). Include the kids in your leaf pile jumping- er, raking & you’ll be at it for much more than a half hour! Making it something that you enjoy is key.
Try a yoga class, sign up for a rec volleyball team, go for a bike ride or get a few people together for a friendly touch football game. Enjoy the fabulous weather we’ve been having- who knows how much longer it’ll last!
Keep it interesting by walking a different route every week or watching for birds & wildlife by the water. Bring a friend or a family member you’ve been meaning to catch up with. Explore Cottonwood Island Nature Park, Connaught Hill or Ferguson Lake Nature Reserve. Be a tourist in your own city & investigate what the visitors centre can tell you about PG- even if you’ve lived here your whole life!
Invest in your health & set a great example for generations to come -get active!
